Old thang, new thang

Last night I attended the first of two beginner knitting classes at Great Yarns. My mom and I wandered into the store while she was in town and well, given my affinity for the timeworn techniques of days gone by, it seems only fitting that I should learn to knit. And by the way, I am not pregnant.

When I was a girl, Grandma Kate taught me how to cast on and do a basic knitting stitch, but was never able to explain how to end a project. I would knit long pieces until I ran out of yarn and then would just disassemble it and start the process over again. No wonder I gave it up.

I love the idea of making my own stuff and I happen to also love scarves and took hats. Both of these make great beginner knitting projects. Knitting seems like a meditative activity, which will be great for alleviating stress. I also think that joining a local stich 'n' bitch group will be a good way to meet new people, particularly once we move.

Do they drink wine at the "stitch-n-bitch"?

I have been meaning to learn how to knit for two years now and haven't gotten around to it. I think it's great that you are going to learn the whole process now. And aren't you glad women don't have to dress like the ladies in your picture anymore?

Dear Anonymous, I know who you are and dear god, I hope so!

Hey there Liz! I think it would be awfully uncomfortable to do anything in those outfits!
